About the event

The Bloomington Opera Camp on May is part of the Opera Camp/Laboratory in Bloomington, IN. Run by SustainableOperaSolutions™  the company that holds the full intellectual property and oversees different SustainableOperaSolutions™ services around the globe. It includes SustainableOperaCamps™  a service that allows communities (kids, youth, adults); students (bachelor, masters, doctorates in different majors), and professionals in different fields to interact in a sustainable way to PRODUCE AND PERFORM opera altogether. A remarkable multidisciplinary development that has received multiple international awards. More info here.

One of the elements of this Opera Camp/Laboratory in Bloomington, IN; is the Opera Camp that will be done in May 2024 where the communities of Bloomington will be an integral part of the experience. The Camp is a two-week intensive Opera experience specifically designed to allow the full spectrum of Opera stakeholders/actors to be integrated under a multilevel organization. That means that Communities (Kids, Young and Adults), Students (Bachelor, Masters and Doctorates), and Professionals can interact and ALL PRODUCING AND PERFORMING opera together. What the program contemplates is not only professionals doing opera and all the people seeing (as is usually done in other pseudo-community programs). We are talking about ALL COMMUNITY interacting and being part of the full production and performance process.

The piece selected for May 2024 launch of the Bloomington Opera Camp is one "El Imperio de la Luz - The Empire of Light" A Peruvian Community Opera in one Act. This is the first opera of the CommunityOperaScores™ goal of commision and performs 10 American Operas (from Argentian to Canada) during the next 10 years.

Opera "The Foundation of Inca Empire"

By Cueto (Alonso and Daniel), Manzanares, Rocha and Barbosa-Vásquez

The Opera describes the myth of the foundation of the fantastic ancient civilization. With an original libretto by the internationally awarded Peruvian writer Alonso Cueto, and music by his son, the International renown Composer Daniel Cueto, the Opera describes the story with style intimately linked with cultural references typical of Peru, such as food, animals, and deities. Also, using sounds of traditional Peruvian music, but with an understandable style for an international audience.

As a brand new Opera specially commissioned by our Opera Summer Camp CASC, this is a multi-arts and community educational Opera in English, Spanish, and Quechua (traditional Inca language). This is an opera that has music, singing, orchestra, arts, scenography, composition, acting, and dance and a carefully designed pedagogical proposal for communities and kids. In addition, the Opera highlights the importance of diversity in our society. That is why in addition to the librettists and composers, three more artists with an outstanding international career in performance, education and artistic mediation, are fundamental part of the creators of this opera. Gloria Manzanares (Fine Arts - Spain), Liliana Rocha (Fine Arts - Colombia), and Diego Barbosa-Vásquez (Opera Conductor - Colombia). All are working together to create unique Score and pedagogic instructions to perform an opera for multi-level singers, orchestra performers, artists, and communities.
