A Successful Online Orchestra Season - YSO of El Salvador


With more than a 1100% increase in community interaction, Maestro Barbosa-Vásquez has been leading the Youth Symphony Orchestra of El Salvador in a totally online season with enormous success.

In the season that celebrates the 25 years of history of the orchestra, the numbers speak for itself. It is having an increase in 500% of community interaction related to the orchestra's more successful pop projects in the past years. And an incredible 1100% increase if it is related to the classic programs. The season that was focused in El Carbonero by Lara and the 5th Symphony of Beethoven was a big success, according to the Marketing Director of the Youth Symphony Orchestra of El Salvador. "The orchestra has been in the mouth of Salvadoreans and different regions of Central and South America. All because of the amazing work making visible the 25 years of history of the orchestra transforming lives," said Maestro David Pimentel (Resident Conductor of the orchestra) in the closing activity of the interviews of the season.


The reasons for this successful online season are the clear goals and strategic musical, artistic and pedagogical correlated activities that were then developed by Maestro Barbosa-Vásquez. Activities that he developed to create a close interaction with the orchestra (current and past members) and its all community. "This is the proof that an orchestra is a perfect tool for the reconstruction of the social fabric, an aspect that is crucial for the world society recovery nowadays," said Maestro Barbosa-Vásquez.


This online season has allowed the orchestra to be active. With virtual rehearsals and music workshops, chamber music, meetings with principals and section leaders, leadership workshops, masterclasses, and interviews with past members and conductors of the orchestra. Colombian Maestro Barbosa-Vásquez has been consolidating a prolific international career. Currently is the Music Director of The Americas Chamber Orchestra (Bloomington, IN, USA) and Artistic and Music Director of CASC, Opera Summer Camp (Los Angeles, CA, USA). Also, he is based in Bloomington, Indiana, USA, pursuing a Doctoral Degree in Opera, Orchestra, and Ballet Conducting at the prestigious Indiana University Jacobs School of Music as a Scholarship holder of Graduate Tuition Award and Artistic Excellence Award. Other international highlights are his 1st. International Opera Conductors Competition in Belgium (Opera Royal de Wallonie) (2017), the III Nino Rota International Conducting Competition in Italy (2018) (in both cases representing Latinamerica), Guest conductor for the 70 anniversary of UNICEF concert, special guest lecturer at the 11th European Orchestra Festival of (EOFed) and WFAO General Assembly (2018 - Norway) and special guest lecturer at the WFAO General Assembly (2019 - Singapore).
